What is a Smart Home

A smart home is not so much the technology as about the life inside it - for the morning in which everything just works without you having to notice it.

We have been building home automation and smart home systems for more than ten years now. We have seen homes where the owner shows guests every feature with pride - and homes where the technology is just there, quiet, and doing its job. We have learned to distinguish the two types and strongly prefer the second.

When a customer asks us “What exactly is a smart home?”, we don't start with protocols, KNX manufacturers, or technical specifications. The answer is simple: the smart home if combination of many subsystems which are integrated to work together - each systems knows the status of the others and all of them are being controlled by centralized interface. Not ten applications but one!

One of the most important steps in the home or building automation is the type of communication. The cabling systems like KNX offer maximal efficiency and long-life of usage - above 25 years without need of changing the structure or anything. The wireless technologies are more flexible for retrofit but they need batteries, good Wi-Fi coverage or radio frequency. For example, here comes KNX RF technology for a help.

We at Aktakon recommend wired infrastructure for new construction and major repairs, and wireless additions as a final option for existing buildings or where wiring is not possible at all.

Many systems. One control.

Behind this seeming simplicity lies a complex integration. A modern smart home is not a “smart bulb” or a “smart thermostat” - these products solve a local problem, but do not make the home smart. When systems start talking to each other, real automation begins.

The process

What does the professional project include

Each of our projects goes through several stages:

  • Consultancy and needs analysis- we understand your needs and desires. We prepare an individual offer.
  • Project design - we do detailed project design for the different subsystems like KNX automation, structural cabling system & multimedia as well as security which are in line with the architectural and electrical design for the particular project.
  • Commissioning the system- the cabling and wiring is being done and the system is being programmed.
  • Training - we are doing a training for you on how to use the system confidently. On the other hand, we provide warranty and post-warranty maintenance of the commissioned systems.
The Selects

Why choose a professional

A DIY (Do it yourself) solution can work for single devices, but when we talk about complete home automation with 5+ subsystems, professional integration ensures reliability, convenience and value in the long run.

The professional smart home is cannot be bought off the store shelf. It is designed, built and maintained over time for the particular lifestyle of the family.
